The California Highway Patrol’s North Sacramento Area office will conduct a DUI sobriety checkpoint Saturday, Sept. 5, in an unincorporated area of Sacramento County.
Officers will begin setting up at approximately 7:30 p.m. The checkpoint will operate from 8 p.m. Saturday until 2 a.m. Sunday.
CHP officers trained to identify drivers impaired by alcohol or drugs will staff the checkpoint. Drug Recognition Experts certified by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration will be available to evaluate motorists suspected of driving under the influence of drugs. Officers will also use handheld breath-testing devices when appropriate.
If inclement weather makes the checkpoint unsafe, CHP will cancel the fixed checkpoint and assign officers to roving DUI enforcement instead.
The checkpoint’s location will be released two hours before operations begin. Information will be available from the CHP Sacramento Communications Center at 916-861-1300 or the on-call public information officer at 916-798-0975.
The operation is funded through a California Office of Traffic Safety grant provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
CHP reminds motorists to plan ahead by designating a sober driver, using a rideshare service or arranging another safe way home.
