The No. 4 Rio Linda Knights showed Wednesday that their regular season dominance was no fluke, powering past the No. 13 Nevada Union Miners 10-7 in playoff action.
Leading the charge at the plate was Peyton Placencia, who turned in her best hitting performance since February 2025, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored, a triple, and a stolen base. Liv Johnson was equally impressive, crossing home plate three times and swiping four bases to keep the pressure on Nevada Union throughout the game.
Coach Steve Burton has the Knights clicking on all cylinders offensively, finishing with a team batting average of .500. Rio Linda is a perfect 13-0 on the season when they hit .375 or better as a team — a testament to how dangerous this lineup can be when locked in.
The win pushes Rio Linda’s record to 20-9 and marks their third consecutive home victory. Nevada Union, meanwhile, continues to struggle, dropping three of their last four games to fall to 7-16 on the year.
Up next for the Knights: a 4:00 p.m. home date with the No. 5 Wood Wildcats on Friday (today) May 15th. Rio Linda’s pitching staff will need to be sharp — Wood has been one of the more productive offenses in the area, averaging 7.1 runs per game this season.
