Small Business Week Spotlight: Amy’s Café Debuts New Fish Filet Bun

In celebration of Small Business Week, we are turning our spotlight toward a local staple that has been serving up comfort and community for over two decades: Amy’s Café.

Owner Amy Wong has been a fixture of the Rio Linda community for 24 years. Long-time residents may recall that before Amy transformed the space into a hub for Chinese cuisine and quick bites, the building served a very different purpose as a lawnmower repair shop. Today, the smell of 2-stroke engine oil has long been replaced by the aroma of fresh chow mein and fried prawns.

Amy invited us in for an exclusive sneak peek at her latest creation, which is officially available to the public beginning today.

The Verdict: A New Local Favorite

The star of our visit was the brand-new Fish Filet Bun. Priced at just $3.99, this sandwich is a masterclass in simple, effective flavors.

For those who enjoy the classic McDonald’s Filet-O-Fish, this will feel familiar but significantly upgraded. The fish is remarkably crunchier, providing a satisfying texture that holds up perfectly against the soft, toasted bun. One of the most welcome changes is the absence of “questionable” American cheese; instead, Amy focuses on the quality of the filet, accented by a thin, even layer of tartar sauce on both sides of the bun for a balanced tang in every bite.

24 Years and Counting

For Amy, the secret to her longevity since the turn of the millennium isn’t just the food—it’s the people of the Rio Linda and Elverta area. She remains deeply appreciative of the local support that has allowed her business to thrive through the years.

“I love this community,” Amy shared. “If the customers keep coming, I’ll stay for another 24 years.”
