RIO LINDA, CA — Local community programs are getting a major boost this week. Sacramento County District 4 Supervisor Rosario Rodriguez officially announced a combined $52,500 in nonprofit grant funding to four organizations serving the Rio Linda and Elverta areas.
The funding is targeted at grassroots efforts that directly impact residents, including youth development, local economic opportunity, food security, and necessary upgrades to community spaces.
“These organizations are making a meaningful difference in the lives of local residents every day,” Supervisor Rodriguez said in a statement. “Whether it’s mentoring young people, helping families put food on the table, supporting local businesses, or improving community spaces, these investments will strengthen Rio Linda and Elverta for years to come.”
Where is the Money Coming From?
This financial support comes by way of the Sacramento County Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) Grant Program.
- What it is: The TOT is a specialized tax levied on guests who stay for 30 consecutive days or less in temporary lodging accommodations—such as hotels, motels, inns, tourist homes, and short-term rentals.
- Where it comes from: The funds are specifically collected from lodging facilities located within the unincorporated areas of Sacramento County.
- How it helps: Instead of just disappearing into a general fund, the Board of Supervisors dedicates a portion of this tourism-driven revenue back into the county via a competitive grant process. It is designed to support nonprofits providing vital services in arts and culture, community development, economic/workforce training, and health and human services.
Who is Receiving the Funds?
Four local organizations have been selected to receive chunks of the $52,500 investment:
Boddie Family Boxing Academy ($20,000): The largest portion of the funding will support the Academy Community Empowerment Program. This initiative focuses on youth mentorship, academic assistance, character building, and after-school events. Additionally, the funds will help establish the new Rio Linda Elverta Teen Council and Teen Center, while expanding local workshops and transportation services.
Rio Linda Chamber of Commerce ($17,500): This grant will inject capital into the local business ecosystem. It is slated to fund educational workshops, workforce readiness initiatives, networking events, and entrepreneurial training specifically tailored for youth and senior business owners. It will also back the Chamber’s upcoming Community Impact Conference.
Rio Linda Food Closet Services ($10,000): Aimed directly at combatting food insecurity, this grant will purchase vital infrastructure. Planned upgrades include new storage containers, heavy-duty shelving, transportation carts, and shade structures to increase operational efficiency and expand capacity to serve families in need.
Rio Linda Elverta Foundation for the Future ($5,000): Funding will be utilized for the physical rehabilitation of the Community Center Park playground. Long-overdue upgrades will replace aging equipment with new, ADA-accessible, and adaptive play features to create an inclusive, safe environment for neighborhood children.
