New Community Center Playground Opens November 14

By John Todd | Rio Linda Online

Rio Linda and Elverta families will have a new place to climb, explore and play when the Community Center Park playground opens Saturday, Nov. 14.

The Rio Linda Elverta Recreation and Park District will celebrate with a ribbon cutting at 10 a.m. at Community Center Park, 810 Oak Lane in Rio Linda. Residents of all ages are invited to join district directors and community partners for the opening.

The new playground replaces aging equipment and includes adaptive play elements designed for children of different abilities. According to the district, staff worked with young residents and the BCI-Burke design team to develop amenities that offer both accessibility and challenges.

“The new playground amenities brighten up the park and will make this area a focal point for residents of all ages,” district General Manager Mike Heller said. “We are beyond excited to be able to present this to our Community.”

Two grants helped make the project possible. The district credited support from the Winn Foundation, which has worked with the RLE Foundation for the Future for several years, and a Sacramento County Transient Occupancy Tax grant awarded to the RLE Foundation for the Future to help purchase playground equipment.

The district said construction is complete, with the playground scheduled to open during the Nov. 14 celebration.
