Sacramento’s biggest music weekend returns to Discovery Park this fall with its largest lineup yet—and several hometown bands will share the bill with some of the biggest names in rock, punk and metal.
Aftershock will run Oct. 1–4, bringing more than 140 artists to five stages over four days. My Chemical Romance, Limp Bizkit, Pierce The Veil and TOOL will headline the 14th edition of the festival.
For Sacramento-area fans, the local highlights include Oleander, Dance Gavin Dance and Spite.
Sacramento rock veterans Oleander will play a hometown reunion set at 12:20 p.m. Sunday on the Shockwave Stage. Best known for late-1990s hits including “Why I’m Here,” the band’s Aftershock appearance will be one of its first shows since 2018.
Sacramento post-hardcore band Dance Gavin Dance follows Sunday evening at 8:10 p.m. on the Faultline Stage. The festival is billing the performance as an exclusive Northern California show.
Sacramento deathcore band Spite gets its hometown spotlight Friday, performing at 4:15 p.m. on the Epicenter Stage.
The Sacramento connections extend into the greater Northern California music scene, with The Story So Far, DRAIN and Hail the Sun also scheduled to perform during the weekend.
Thursday: My Chemical Romance and The Offspring
Thursday opens with a full day of punk, alternative and hard rock.
My Chemical Romance closes the Aftershock Stage at 8:25 p.m. with a performance celebrating the 20th anniversary of The Black Parade. Sublime performs at 6:20 p.m., Hot Mulligan at 4:40 p.m. and Mayday Parade at 3:15 p.m.
On the Shockwave Stage, The Offspring begins at 7:20 p.m., following The Used at 5:30 p.m. and New Found Glory at 3:55 p.m.
Other Thursday highlights include Killswitch Engage at 8:20 p.m. on the Faultline Stage, The Pretty Reckless at 7:35 p.m. on The Point Stage and Starset at 9:10 p.m. on the Epicenter Stage.
Friday: Limp Bizkit, Wu-Tang Clan and Spite
Friday brings one of Aftershock’s most varied lineups, mixing metal, hardcore and hip-hop.
Limp Bizkit headlines the Aftershock Stage at 9:45 p.m. The day’s main-stage lineup also includes Wu-Tang Clan at 7:35 p.m., Public Enemy at 5:55 p.m., Cypress Hill at 4:15 p.m. and Insane Clown Posse at 2:45 p.m.
$uicideboy$ performs at 8:40 p.m. on the Shockwave Stage, following Slaughter to Prevail at 6:45 p.m., Three 6 Mafia at 5:05 p.m. and DRAIN at 2:05 p.m.
Sacramento’s Spite takes the Epicenter Stage at 4:15 p.m. Other Friday closers include Dethklok at 9:45 p.m. on the Faultline Stage and Coheed and Cambria at 8:50 p.m. on The Point Stage.
Saturday: Pierce The Veil and A Day To Remember
Pierce The Veil closes the Aftershock Stage at 9:25 p.m. Saturday, following BABYMETAL at 7:20 p.m., Sleeping With Sirens at 5:35 p.m. and Chiodos at 4:05 p.m.
A Day To Remember headlines the Shockwave Stage at 8:15 p.m. The Story So Far performs a hometown-area show at 6:25 p.m., preceded earlier in the day by Wage War at 4:50 p.m. and The Devil Wears Prada at 2:05 p.m.
Black Label Society takes The Point Stage at 9:40 p.m., while Circa Survive plays its West Coast reunion show at 7:10 p.m. on the Faultline Stage. The Ghost Inside closes the Epicenter Stage at 7:15 p.m.
Sunday: Sacramento Takes the Stage Before TOOL
Sunday provides the festival’s strongest hometown connection.
Oleander’s reunion begins at 12:20 p.m. on the Shockwave Stage. That stage continues with Stone Temple Pilots at 5:25 p.m. and Queens of the Stone Age at 7:20 p.m.
Dance Gavin Dance performs at 8:10 p.m. on the Faultline Stage, following The Home Team at 6:55 p.m., From First To Last at 5:30 p.m. and Hail the Sun at 3:40 p.m.
On the Aftershock Stage, TOOL closes the festival at 8:25 p.m. Danny Elfman performs at 6:15 p.m., AFI at 4:40 p.m., Zakk Sabbath at 3:20 p.m. and Buckethead at 2 p.m.
Body Count plays The Point Stage at 7:35 p.m., following Suicidal Tendencies at 6:10 p.m. and Cavalera at 4:55 p.m.
Danny Elfman’s 6:15 p.m. appearance will be one of Sunday’s most distinctive performances. Elfman first became known as the frontman of Oingo Boingo before building an extraordinary second career as the composer behind Batman, Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, The Nightmare Before Christmas and dozens of other films and television programs. His live rock performances have blended Oingo Boingo favorites, selections from his film scores and material from his solo album Big Mess, making his Aftershock set a rare bridge between alternative rock, orchestral music and Hollywood.
Stone Temple Pilots take the Shockwave Stage at 5:25 p.m. Sunday, bringing one of the most recognizable catalogs of the 1990s to Discovery Park. Founding members Dean DeLeo, Robert DeLeo and Eric Kretz continue the band’s legacy with vocalist Jeff Gutt, performing from a songbook that includes “Plush,” “Interstate Love Song,” “Vasoline” and “Creep.” With more than 40 million records sold worldwide and a sound that moved well beyond its early grunge label, STP should provide one of Sunday’s strongest sing-along sets.
