Public safety incidents come less than two weeks before an August 27 community meeting with county and Sheriff’s Office officials

A man shot in both legs Friday afternoon, a pursuit through the streets of Rio Linda Saturday morning, and a second pursuit approaching the community only minutes later made for an eventful 24 hours for law enforcement in the Rio Linda area.
The incidents are not known to be connected. Taken together, however, they brought significant law enforcement activity into and around the community between Friday afternoon and Saturday morning.
The activity also comes less than two weeks before Rio Linda and Elverta residents will have an opportunity to discuss public safety and other community concerns directly with Sacramento County officials and representatives of the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.
Man Shot in Both Legs on C Street
The first incident occurred just after 4 p.m. Friday, when the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office received a call reporting a shooting in the 1300 block of C Street, near Dry Creek Road.
Deputies arrived and found a man who had been shot in both legs.
The victim was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment and was reported to be in stable condition.
Authorities have not publicly identified the victim, and information about a possible suspect or the circumstances leading up to the shooting has not been released.
The investigation remains ongoing.
Crown Victoria Pursuit Begins on 7th Avenue
About 17 hours later, at approximately 8:50 a.m. Saturday, Sacramento County sheriff’s deputies became involved in a pursuit of a white Ford Crown Victoria through Rio Linda.
The pursuit began on 7th Avenue in the area of Nu-Way Market after a deputy encountered the Crown Victoria reportedly doing donuts.
The driver fled, and the pursuit headed toward Dry Creek.
Near Dry Creek Road and U Street, the Crown Victoria struck something but continued driving. The vehicle then made its way toward Rio Linda Boulevard.
At M Street and Rio Linda Boulevard, near the Rio Linda archway, the Crown Victoria spun out but again continued.
The pursuit finally ended near M Street and West 2nd Street, where the Crown Victoria crashed into a fence.
Deputies moved their vehicles into position and pinned the Crown Victoria in, preventing the driver from leaving again.
The driver remained inside the vehicle for a short period and made a phone call before being taken into custody.
At the very least, the driver faces a felony evading charge stemming from the pursuit. His identity and any additional charges have not yet been released.
Crown Victoria Reportedly Seen Before
The white Crown Victoria involved in Saturday morning’s pursuit may have already been familiar to some Rio Linda residents.
Rio Linda Online received reports that what appears to be the same vehicle was doing donuts near Withington Avenue and West 2nd Street Friday night, just hours before Saturday morning’s pursuit.
A white Crown Victoria had also reportedly been seen previously doing donuts near 6th and K streets.
Those earlier incidents have not been officially linked by law enforcement to the vehicle involved in Saturday morning’s pursuit.
The reports nevertheless raise questions about recurring reckless-driving activity in the community and whether the same vehicle had attracted attention before Saturday morning.
Second Pursuit Approaches Rio Linda Minutes Later
As deputies were dealing with the Crown Victoria incident, another law enforcement pursuit was approaching the Rio Linda area.
At approximately 9:05 a.m., a Sutter County Sheriff’s Office unit called for assistance while pursuing a vehicle eastbound on Elverta Road toward Rio Linda Boulevard.
Sutter County discontinued the pursuit shortly thereafter.
The reason for that pursuit is not currently known, and there is no information indicating that it was connected to the Crown Victoria pursuit.
The timing was notable. The Sacramento County pursuit began at approximately 8:50 a.m., while the request for assistance from Sutter County came approximately 15 minutes later.
An Active 24 Hours
From Friday afternoon’s shooting on C Street to Saturday morning’s pursuits, the incidents made for an unusually active period in Rio Linda.
Several important questions remain unanswered.
The circumstances surrounding the C Street shooting remain under investigation, with no suspect information publicly released.
Additional details are also awaited regarding the Crown Victoria pursuit, including the driver’s identity and whether charges beyond felony evading will result from the incident.
The circumstances that prompted the separate Sutter County pursuit also remain unknown.
Public Safety Meeting Coming August 27
The timing of the incidents is particularly relevant with a previously scheduled community meeting involving county leadership and law enforcement coming to Rio Linda later this month.
Sacramento County District 4 Supervisor Rosario Rodriguez and the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office North Division are promoting a community meeting on Thursday, August 27, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Rio Linda Youth Center, 627 L Street.
The meeting will be held in the cafeteria of the former Rio Linda Elementary School.
The August 27 gathering is part of Supervisor Rodriguez’s series of District 4 community meetings and is also the final stop in a series of August community meetings being promoted by the Sheriff’s Office North Division.
For Rio Linda and Elverta, where there is no municipal police department, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office serves as the local law enforcement agency.
That makes the meeting an opportunity for residents to raise questions directly about crime, traffic and reckless-driving enforcement, staffing, response times and recurring neighborhood problems.
Saturday morning’s Crown Victoria pursuit may provide a particularly timely example. Residents have reported vehicles doing donuts and engaging in other reckless-driving behavior at multiple locations around Rio Linda, including reports involving what appears to be the same Crown Victoria eventually pursued by deputies.
Friday’s C Street shooting may generate a different set of questions about violent crime, investigations and law enforcement presence in the community.
Neither incident by itself establishes a broader crime trend, but together with Saturday morning’s two pursuits, they give residents several recent and very local examples to discuss with county and Sheriff’s Office representatives.
