Residents interested in serving on several local boards still have an opportunity to put their names on the November ballot.
Sacramento County has extended the candidate nomination period for several local offices appearing on the November 3, 2026 General Election ballot. The new filing deadline is 5 p.m. Wednesday, August 12.
The extension applies only to non-incumbent candidates in races where an eligible incumbent did not file nomination papers by the original deadline.
For the Rio Linda and Elverta area, the extended nomination period includes seats on the:
- Rio Linda/Elverta Community Water District
- Elverta Elementary School District
- Robla School District
- Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District — Division 1
Metro Fire Division 1 Seat Will Have New Representation
Of particular interest locally is the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District Division 1 seat, where longtime director Cinthia Saylors is stepping down after two terms on the Metro Fire Board of Directors.
Saylors has been a strong and consistent representative for Rio Linda and Elverta during her time on the board, keeping the needs of the community visible within one of the largest fire protection agencies in the region.
For an unincorporated community such as Rio Linda-Elverta, representation on regional boards can be especially important. Saylors has understood the community she represents and has been accessible and engaged during her two terms in office.
Her departure means voters will select a new Division 1 representative this November, making the extended filing period particularly significant for anyone considering serving the community on the Metro Fire board.
How to Become a Candidate
Anyone wishing to run for one of the offices included in the extension must complete and file nomination papers with the Sacramento County Voter Registration and Elections Office no later than:

The extended nomination period provides one final opportunity for residents interested in local government to step forward. School districts, the water district and Metro Fire make decisions that directly affect Rio Linda and Elverta residents, often much more immediately than higher-profile state and federal offices.
