RIO LINDA, CA — If you’ve driven thru MarVal Plaza recently, you likely noticed a major change to a long-standing local fixture. The Bank of America kiosk, which has occupied a spot in the parking lot for years, was recently stripped of its branding and ATM machines, leaving many residents wondering about the future of local banking access.

After receiving numerous inquiries from concerned readers, Rio Linda Online reached out to Bank of America corporate representatives to get definitive answers on why the machines were pulled and what comes next.
According to a Bank of America spokesperson, the closure comes down to an expired lease and declining traffic.
“The lease expired at the current location, and since it had notably low usage compared to our other ATMs in the area, we decided to not renew the lease,” Colleen Haggerty, Media Relations Executive at Bank of America stated. “We alerted users of this specific ATM with an onscreen notice for 30 days to help them prepare for other location options.”
However, local customers won’t be left without a hometown option for long. Bank of America confirmed they are actively working to establish a new footprint in town.
“During this time, we have been working to secure a new ATM site in Rio Linda near Elkhorn Blvd. and should be built out and online by the first quarter of 2027,” said Haggerty.
In the interim, local account holders will need to travel slightly outside of town for in-person transactions. Bank of America pointed to their full-service financial centers and ATMs located three miles away in North Highlands, as well as their branches in Antelope, West Natomas, and North Natomas, to serve Rio Linda clients during the transition.
Bank of America has a deep history in the community, serving local families and businesses for decades. The institution originally operated out of the building at 640 M Street before moving its operations to the MarVal Plaza at 918 Oak Lane, where it remained a staple of the local landscape for many years.
