RIO LINDA — Local readers will have a chance to meet the people behind the pages Saturday when Rio Java Café hosts a Local Authors Meet & Greet, bringing five writers together for an afternoon celebrating books, storytelling and the local community.
The free event will be held Saturday, Oct. 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Rio Java Café, 956 Oak Lane in Rio Linda.
Organizers are billing the gathering as a “Drink Local, Read Local” event, giving residents an opportunity to meet the authors, browse their books and talk with them about their work.
Five authors representing a wide range of genres are scheduled to participate:
- Samantha Delozier, author of Secrets of Willow Creek, part of a series featuring fantasy, mystery, romance, magic and small-town secrets.
- Zeb Keith, author of The Road to Narcissistic Abuse Recovery, a memoir and self-help title centered on recovery, inspiration and personal growth.
- Randy Profit, author of Sight to Dark to Light, a faith-based book focused on healing, encouragement, overcoming darkness and finding hope.
- Jessica Glazebrook, author of Connor and the Attack of the Really Big Peas, the first book in a children’s series featuring humor, imagination and life lessons.
- Rawge Jones, author of Just Minding My Own Business, described as a hybrid memoir featuring stories that are embarrassing, gross and wild.
The variety means visitors can browse everything from children’s literature and fantasy to memoirs, personal growth and faith-based writing.
The event is intended to be casual and family-friendly, with attendees encouraged to stop in, meet the writers, discover a new book and talk directly with the authors about their stories and the experiences behind them.
For a community that regularly rallies around locally owned businesses, the event adds another element to the “shop local” idea: read local, too.
Admission is free and all are welcome.
