Charlene Adele Wernsman Allan, whose family roots reach back to Elverta’s earliest settlers, died Aug. 31, 2026. She was 89.
Born March 20, 1937, to Pearl Marie and Emil Albert Wernsman, Charlene was the great-granddaughter of David and Magdalena Strauch, who settled in Elverta in the 1850s.
Charlene graduated from Sacramento High School in 1955. She went on to work for the state of California, retiring from the Department of Justice in 2002.
Her family remembers her quick wit, warm smile and love of a good gathering. Childhood summers in Santa Cruz gave her a lasting affection for the ocean and roller coasters, and she carried that sense of fun into family vacations and adventures.
Charlene was the mother of Jon, Jerry, Jeff and Judy. Her sons Jon and Jerry died in 2025. She also leaves seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
We extend our condolences to Charlene’s family and to everyone who shared in her life.
