Hunters from Rio Linda, Elverta and throughout the Sacramento region will have an opportunity next month to weigh in on hunting programs at two of Northern California’s most popular public wildlife areas.
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife will hold an online public meeting Thursday, Sept. 10, from 5 to 7 p.m. The meeting will focus on hunting opportunities and conditions at the Yolo Bypass and Grizzly Island wildlife areas ahead of the 2026-27 waterfowl season.
Both areas are within reach of local hunters and provide managed public hunting opportunities for waterfowl and other game species.
According to CDFW, staff members will provide updates on several topics, including:
- Completed and ongoing habitat restoration projects
- Current habitat conditions
- Waterfowl and pheasant production
- Changes to hunting opportunities and programs
- Fall flood-up predictions
- Anticipated opening-day hunter quotas
The meeting will also allow licensed hunters to offer comments and recommendations directly to CDFW staff.
Yolo Bypass and Grizzly Island are designated Type A wildlife areas. During waterfowl season, Type A areas restrict the number of hunters allowed on the property and generally require reservations, permits or participation in an on-site drawing.
CDFW conducts annual outreach to gather feedback from hunters and share expected habitat and access conditions before the season begins. The information can be particularly helpful when hunters are deciding where to submit reservation applications or planning their opening-weekend trips.
The Sept. 10 meeting will be held virtually through Microsoft Teams. Anyone interested in participating should email [email protected] to request the meeting link and instructions for submitting comments or questions.
