The Rio Linda/Elverta community is mourning the loss of John Peter Bardessono, who passed away in his home on April 4, 2026, at the age of 70. A devoted family man, Eagle Scout, and dedicated public servant, John leaves behind a legacy of hard work and community involvement.
Born in Sanitarium, California, on July 31, 1955, and raised in Yountville, John was the middle of five children born to Peter and Maxine Bardessono. His upbringing in the Napa Valley vineyards instilled in him the resilient work ethic and strong family values that defined his life.
John was a proud graduate of Vintage High School (Class of 1973) and later earned his degree in Business/Accounting from California State University, Sacramento in 1984. It was during his time at Sac State that he met Cindy, his wife of 42 years.
A Career of Service
John’s professional life was marked by a commitment to public service and leadership. He served as the Accountant and Data Processing Manager for the Sacramento State Foundation before moving into information systems management. He eventually retired in December 2019 as a Tax Audit Supervisor for the California State Board of Equalization/CDTFA after 27 years of service to the state.
Devotion to Youth and Community
Throughout his life, John was deeply involved in supporting local youth organizations. An Eagle Scout himself (Troop 1, Saint Helena, 1973), he was a steadfast supporter of his son’s Boy Scout Troop 224 and served as the PTA President for Center High School.
A man of deep faith, John was an active member of his church, where he frequently gave readings during Mass. In his retirement, he continued to give back by volunteering with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, helping others navigate their tax filings.
Family and Legacy
John was preceded in death by his father, Peter John Bardessono. He is survived by his beloved wife, Cindy; his mother, Maxine; and his four children: Christina (Neal) Harknett, Katie (Matt) Davis, Peter (Cassandra) Bardessono, and Matthew Bardessono (Olivia Lucatuorto). He also leaves behind eight grandchildren, four siblings, and a large extended family.
