For many shelter dogs, no one knows the day they were born. This August, Sacramento County is making sure that doesn’t stop them from having a birthday worth celebrating.
Animal shelters across the country recognize DOGust as the universal birthday for shelter dogs whose actual birth dates are unknown. The annual celebration shines a spotlight on thousands of adoptable dogs waiting for families and encourages residents to consider adoption.
To celebrate, Sacramento County’s Bradshaw Animal Shelter is waiving adoption fees for all dogs through Aug. 23, giving prospective pet owners an opportunity to welcome a new companion home at no cost.
Whether you’re looking for an energetic hiking partner, a playful family dog or a quiet companion to relax on the couch, the shelter has dogs of all ages, breeds and personalities waiting for their forever homes.
Every adopted dog leaves the shelter:
- Spayed or neutered
- Vaccinated
- Microchipped
- Ready to begin life with a new family
Shelter officials say each adoption does more than change the life of one dog. Every empty kennel creates space for another animal in need, allowing Bradshaw Animal Shelter to continue caring for pets from throughout Sacramento County, including Rio Linda and Elverta.
Community members are encouraged to visit the shelter before Aug. 23 to meet adoptable dogs and take advantage of the fee-waived adoption event.
