For five innings, the Rio Linda Juniors All-Stars and Pocket Little League traded punches.
Then came the sixth inning.

Rio Linda erupted for eight runs in the top of the final frame, turning a tight contest into a convincing 14-6 victory over Pocket Little League Saturday at Bill Conlin Youth Sports Complex. The win keeps Rio Linda alive in the District 7 Junior Division All-Star Tournament. The tournament is being hosted at Pocket Little League’s Bill Conlin Sports Complex.
Rio Linda’s offense came alive when it mattered most.
Eugene Privett, Lewis Moreno and Xavier Williams each forced in runs after being hit by pitches with the bases loaded. Coleton Weinholdt and Jesse Scoggins each worked patient walks that produced runs before Jayden McCorkle delivered one of the biggest swings of the afternoon, driving in two more with a single. An additional run crossed the plate on a Pocket error as Rio Linda sent wave after wave of hitters to the plate.
Pocket struck first in the opening inning, but Rio Linda answered immediately.
Pedro Villalobos delivered an RBI single to even the score in the bottom of the first before Moreno’s RBI single in the third gave Rio Linda a 3-1 advantage.
Pocket refused to go away, battling back to tie the game entering the decisive sixth inning before Rio Linda’s explosive rally put the game out of reach.
While the offense stole the headlines, Rio Linda also received timely pitching and solid defensive play throughout the afternoon, keeping Pocket within striking distance until the bats finally broke through.
The victory advances Rio Linda deeper into District 7 tournament play as the club continues its pursuit of a sectional berth.
