Rio Linda Knights Football kept their unbeaten league record intact Friday night, edging Casa Roble 25-22 in Orangevale behind a season-high 337 rushing yards.
The Knights’ third consecutive victory improved their record to 4-3 overall and 3-0 in Golden Empire League play. Next up is a trip to Sutter on Friday, Oct. 23.
Football wasn’t the only Rio Linda program with something to celebrate. Girls flag football swept its two games, girls water polo pulled out a one-goal victory, and volleyball finished the week with a split.
Anderson leads the ground attack
Zayden Anderson led Rio Linda with 165 rushing yards on 21 carries and added 59 receiving yards. Louis Means contributed 69 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
The Knights finished with 426 yards of total offense: 337 rushing and 89 passing.
Anderson, Ace Perez-Solorio, Baltazar Tate and Reymundo Castro were named MaxPreps’ Players of the Game.
The three-point road victory kept the Knights unbeaten in league as they head into the final stretch of the regular season.
Flag football adds two wins
The Knights girls flag football team continued building its postseason case with a 13-6 victory over El Camino and a 39-13 win over Destiny Christian Academy.
Rio Linda won a close contest to open the week, then followed it with a more comfortable margin against Destiny Christian.
MaxPreps projects the Knights as a Division III playoff qualifier. That projection offers an encouraging outlook, though an official postseason berth and seed remain to be determined.
The Knights travel to Dixon on Monday, Oct. 19, with another opportunity to strengthen their position.
Girls water polo bounces back
Rio Linda’s girls water polo team responded to a loss against Dixon by edging Casa Roble 9-8.
The narrow victory gave the Knights a positive finish to the week as they prepare for their next home matchup.
Boys water polo awaits reported result
The final score from Thursday’s scheduled boys water polo game at Casa Roble remained unreported as of this update.
Rio Linda’s listed record therefore remains 1-7 overall and 0-4 in league, pending that result.
Both the boys and girls water polo teams are scheduled to host Woodland on Thursday, Oct. 22.
Volleyball splits the week
The Knights girls volleyball team finished the week with one win and one loss.
Rio Linda heads to Woodland on Monday, Oct. 19, as its fall schedule continues.
