Rio Linda High Athletics Gear Up for the Post-Season and Senior Tributes

RIO LINDA — As the academic year draws toward its conclusion, the competitive spirit at Rio Linda High School is only heating up. This week, the Knights face a pivotal stretch of athletic contests that range from high-stakes postseason golf in Davis to emotional “Senior Night” farewells on the softball diamond. With sectional titles on the line and veteran players preparing for their final home appearances, the community is rallying to support the student-athletes who represent the pride of Rio Linda.

Links to Glory: Meadors Heads to Sections

The week kicks off with a high-stakes individual performance on the green. On Monday, May 4th, standout golfer Brandon Meadors travels to Davis to compete in the SECTIONS tournament.

This “all-day” event represents the culmination of a season’s worth of precision and mental fortitude. Sectional play is the gateway to state-level competition, placing Meadors among the elite high school golfers in the region. His progression to this stage underscores the strength of the Rio Linda golf program and the individual dedication required to compete at the varsity level.

Softball: A Tale of Two Cities

The Knights softball program dominates the midweek schedule with a pair of critical matchups that test their road resilience and home-field advantage.

  • Away at Dixon: On Tuesday, May 5th, the Varsity squad travels to Dixon for a prime-time matchup under the lights at 6:30 PM.
  • Home Defense: Following the road trip, the action returns to Rio Linda on Thursday, May 7th, as the Knights host Del Campo. The Junior Varsity (JV) team kicks off the afternoon at 4:30 PM, followed by the Varsity first pitch at 6:00 PM.

A Night of Honor: Celebrating the Seniors

The Thursday home game against Del Campo carries significance beyond the box score. Rio Linda High School will observe Senior Night, a cherished tradition where the school and community recognize the dedication of graduating athletes.

For many of these players, this game represents one of the final times they will wear the Knights jersey on their home turf. Athletic Director Svetlana Stepanchuk and the physical education department have organized the evening to honor the leadership and sportsmanship these seniors have displayed throughout their high school careers. Fans are encouraged to arrive early to participate in the pre-game ceremonies.
