Softball Celebrates Fresno Tournament Victory as Spring Sports Charge Ahead


RIO LINDA, CA — The Rio Linda High School community is buzzing this week following a dominant performance by the Lady Knights softball team. Representing the school with distinction, the team secured a tournament championship in Fresno last week, extending an impressive winning streak that has seen them outscoring opponents by nearly double digits on average.

The Fresno run featured standout performances from key players like Izabella Moen, who recently notched a career-high four RBIs in a single contest, and Kiera Waggoner, who has been a force on the mound. The tournament victory serves as a testament to the hard work of the athletes and coaching staff, firmly establishing the Knights as a formidable contender in the Greater Sacramento League (GEL) this season.

As the softball team looks to carry that momentum back to local dirt, the rest of the RLHS athletic department is entering a packed mid-April schedule. From the links to the pool, here is what is on the horizon for our student-athletes this week:

Weekly Sports Slate (April 7 – April 11)

Tuesday, April 7th

  • Softball: The Knights travel to El Camino for a JV and Varsity doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 PM.
  • Boys Golf: Away at Destiny Christian. Tee time is set for 3:00 PM.

Wednesday, April 8th

  • Track & Field: The team heads to Casa Roble for the high-stakes GEL Meet #2. Events begin at 1:30 PM.
  • Volleyball: Varsity stays on the road for a 6:00 PM match at Destiny Christian.

Thursday, April 9th

  • Softball (Home Game): The Lady Knights return to the home field to host Dixon. This Varsity matchup begins at 6:30 PM.
  • Swim: Away at Natomas for a special Senior Night meet. Competition starts at 4:00 PM.
  • Tennis: The squad travels to Natomas for a 4:00 PM start.
  • Boys Golf: Away at Woodland at 3:00 PM.

Friday, April 10th

  • Volleyball: The Knights wrap up the week at Casa Roble. JV begins at 5:00 PM, followed by Varsity at 6:00 PM.
