RIO LINDA, CA — Residents of Rio Linda and Elverta looking for a deeper look at local law enforcement operations have a unique opportunity this spring. The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office has officially opened enrollment for its Spring 2026 Community Academy, a 10-week program designed to bridge the gap between the department and the citizens it serves.
The academy is a comprehensive educational program that provides an inside look at the various facets of the Sheriff’s Office. Over the course of ten weeks, participants will explore the complexities of the criminal justice system and receive detailed briefings on high-interest divisions. Topics include Crime Scene Investigations (CSI), Internal Affairs, Community Policing, and Dispatch and Communications.
In addition to classroom learning, the program highlights specialized units that are often active in the North County area, such as the K9 unit and Air Operations. Other curriculum highlights include:
- Investigative Teams
- Recruiting and Re-Entry Services
- Youth Services
- Homeless Outreach
This initiative aligns with ongoing community efforts to foster transparency and communication between local government agencies and Rio Linda residents. For those involved in local advocacy or neighborhood associations, the academy offers a primary source of information on how county resources are allocated to our unincorporated areas.
Program Logistics
The academy is free of charge and will be held every Tuesday evening from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The session is scheduled to run from May 5, 2026, through July 7, 2026.
Meetings will be held at 4510 Orange Grove Ave. in Sacramento, a location central to many North Sacramento County residents.
How to Apply
Prospective attendees should act quickly, as space is strictly limited to only 30 participants to ensure an engaging and personal experience. Applicants must be residents of Sacramento County.
The deadline to submit an application is April 20, 2026.
For more information or to request an application via email, interested parties should contact Lt. Kionna Rowe at [email protected] or by calling 916-832-4590.
As Rio Linda continues to navigate local planning and safety issues, programs like the Community Academy offer a vital platform for residents to gain the knowledge necessary to engage effectively with the authorities tasked with protecting the community.
