American Legion Post 521 to Host Annual Easter Egg Hunt this Saturday

RIO LINDA, CA — Spring is in the air, and the Rio Linda American Legion Post 521 is ready to celebrate with the community. This coming Saturday, April 4th, the Legion will host its annual Easter Egg Hunt, a long-standing tradition that brings families together for a day of festive fun.

The event kicks off at 12:00 Noon at the American Legion post located at 6700 8th Street in Rio Linda.

A Day of Family Fun

Organizers are encouraging all local children to bring their own baskets to collect eggs hidden throughout the grounds. Beyond the hunt itself, the afternoon promises a full slate of family-oriented activities, including:

  • Interactive games for various age groups.
  • A hotdog lunch for attendees.
  • Appearances by the Easter Bunny for photos.

More Than Just a Social Club: What is the American Legion?

While many know the American Legion for its community events and bingo nights, the organization is the nation’s largest wartime veterans service organization. Founded in 1919, it is built on four pillars:

  1. Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation
  2. National Security
  3. Americanism
  4. Children & Youth

Nationally, the Legion was instrumental in the creation of the U.S. Veterans Administration and the passage of the original GI Bill, which transformed American society by providing education and housing benefits to returning service members.

Post 521: A Pillar of the Rio Linda Community

Here in Rio Linda, Post 521 serves as a vital hub for local veterans. Members work year-round to provide a support system for those who have served, assisting with benefits navigation and offering a space for camaraderie.

However, their impact extends far beyond veteran services. Post 521 is deeply embedded in the fabric of Rio Linda, frequently sponsoring youth sports, providing scholarships, and offering their hall as a meeting space for various community groups. The Easter Egg Hunt is just one of many ways the Post continues its “Children & Youth” mission, ensuring the next generation has a safe and joyful place to celebrate the holidays.
