Ronald “Ronnie” Whitman Passes at 76

Ronnie Whitman

The Rio Linda community mourns the loss of one of its most beloved and longest-serving residents, Ronald Earl Whitman, who passed away on October 11, 2025, in Sacramento, just days after celebrating his 76th birthday.

Born on October 6, 1949, in Marysville, Mr. Whitman spent his entire life in the Golden State, but it was in Rio Linda where he firmly planted his roots, living here for more than 70 years. During his decades in the area, Ron became a familiar and cherished figure, known to many simply as “Ronnie,” a reflection of his friendly nature and deep, enduring connection to the community he loved. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him in town.

Ronnie was preceded in death by his devoted parents, Benjamin and Gladys Whitman; his sisters, Beverly Ann Hunt and Sharon Lee Childress (Whitman); and two nephews, Chad E. Torrez and Benjamin Eugene Jr.

He leaves behind a large and loving family who will carry on his memory, including his brother, Gene Whitman; his niece, Kayce Hoff; and his nephews, Ryan Miller, Ben Whitman, Brian Torrez, and Jason Torrez. Ronnie’s spirit also lives on through eleven additional nieces and nephews, as well as the many great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews who continue to expand the Whitman family legacy.

May the memory of Uncle Ronnie bring peace and comfort to his family and friends, and may his lifelong dedication to his community continue to inspire the people of Rio Linda for generations to come.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, November 16, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at American Legion Post 521, located at 6700 8th St. The community is invited to attend and share their favorite memories of Ronnie.
