Rio Linda, CA – Voluntary evacuations were lifted Monday evening after a human-caused vegetation fire sparked in Rio Linda, burning at least three outbuildings near Dry Creek Road and Elkhorn Boulevard.
Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District (Metro Fire) officials reported that forward progress on the brush fire was stopped just before 3 p.m., about an hour after it ignited. The blaze ultimately charred at least 17 acres, destroying two outbuildings and damaging another structure.
Evacuations for several homes were lifted shortly after 6 p.m.
The fire caused some temporary road closures. Dry Creek Parkway, an area near the fire, was closed for about two hours, and a portion of Elkhorn Boulevard just south of the blaze was also shut down for a time.
Metro Fire officials confirmed the fire was “human caused on a residential property” and stated that arson investigators would be taking over the case. The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office assisted with earlier evacuations in the Dry Creek Trail area.
